The Founder’s Award

An annual highlight of our National Meetings is the presentation of the Founder’s Award, the highest honor awarded to a Lansing associate who has best exemplified the values and spirit of our founder, my grandfather Ted Lansing, over a long career.

At our National Sales Meeting, I was thrilled to recognize Steve Mosby, Senior Vice President of Vendor Relations & Category Management. Likewise, it was an honor to present the Founder’s Award to Scott Ford, Central Operations Manager, at the National Operations Meeting.

Steve Mosby’s ability to connect with people across our business over three decades is unparalleled, every step of the way he has excelled including in Sales, Training, and Vendor Relations.

Steve continues to impart his wisdom as a leader, mentor, and teacher, with no end in sight.

Stephanie and I were expecting our first child, Kate, in November 2004. During a fishing trip earlier that year, Steve shared with me some wisdom on fatherhood. “Right now, you probably feel you are on the fifth floor of a five-story building,” said Steve. “Maybe you think you know how your life is going to change as a father, but when Kate comes, you will realize you’re on the fifth floor of a 100-story building. There are experiences and expectations you’ve never thought of; that over time you will feel, live, and explore.”

His wisdom is powerful, and I have shared this message with many soon-to-be parents.

Scott Ford is a shining example of our True Blue behaviors, especially Making Each Day Better.

After serving our country in the Navy, Scott joined Lansing in 1995, making an impact in the Newport News branch before eventually leading the Central Operations team in the Home Office. He continually strives to get better, and is always available to help others grow. In an area of our business that is dominated by process and procedure, Scott always finds the time to make it personal with those around him.

Both Steve and Scott embody our purpose of making a positive impact in people’s lives as they have contributed to the growth and development of countless associates, customers, and suppliers for decades. Please join me in congratulating them.
