When my grandfather started Lansing Building Products in 1955, I don’t think he envisioned a national company operating in four time zones with over 950 associates. I believe the communication, technology and pace of business was beyond his imaginings. What he did envision, however, was a company centered on Respect, Service, Excellence and the Highest Ethical Standards. These are the 4 core values at the center of everything we do.
While everyone at Lansing strives to steadfastly adhere to these principles, sometimes an associate demonstrates it to a level that simply stands out. From time to time such individuals are presented with our Founder’s Award – the highest honor that can be presented to an LBP associate. It is for those who best exemplify the values and spirit that founded our great company. At our recent national sales meeting in Williamsburg, Virginia I was honored to present Dave Leonardo with this award.
Dave began his Lansing career in January 1980 as a warehouse associate for what was then our Hampton, VA facility. By just the next year (1981) he was named Salesman of the Year, which he followed up in 1982 with being named Branch Manager of the newly opened Wilmington, NC facility. Dave transferred to Raleigh, NC and in 1986 led his team to the level of Branch of the Year.
1992 saw Dave move in order to support his wife’s career when he transferred to Charlotte in the position of inside sales. Dave’s vast company experience was utilized in 1999 with his work on the committee overseeing our change to a new computer operating system with Y2K looming. And then again in 2001 Dave was selected as part of a pilot program to test Regional Purchasing. He was named our first Regional Purchaser later that year and continues in that position to this day.
As you have read, Dave has held a large variety of positions within LBP. While his title may have changed many times, what has remained consistent is his dedication, commitment to excellence, unwavering ethics, and his outgoing, friendly nature.
