The Power of Upward Communication

At Lansing, we exist to make a positive impact in people’s lives.  This includes creating a work environment where our associates feel fulfilled, challenged, and have opportunities to grow and develop.

This is only accomplished by valuing every voice.

In a previous post, I noted that in our most recent annual associate survey, 85% of our associates agree that Lansing is a great place to work. More importantly, however, the 98% participation rate of our associates in the survey lets me know that we are getting complete feedback on what we are doing well and where we can improve.

Additionally, this month we sent out focus group invitations to all levels of our company to better understand how we can improve communications throughout Lansing.

The power of upward communication can set a company on an awesome trajectory.

People, in general, want their voices heard and perspectives valued.  We take associate feedback seriously and act on it. Over the past few years, we have made significant investments in a wide range of areas including Career Growth & Development, Training, Compensation & Benefits, Recognition, and Innovation, just to name a few. All of it is based directly on our people’s recommendations.

We are fortunate to have incredible leaders that I am privileged to work alongside every day. Their knowledge of the business is extensive, but we recognize we do not have every answer. It is a strength to know that if we listen to our front-line associates, we will arrive at the solutions together and make a greater impact in line with our purpose.
